Objetivo
- Requirement profile for the measurements of reeds, which shows for the first time, what features the reed manufacturers must be measured to get an objective, 100% control of their reeds;
- Test unit, which enables to measured the different features in an objective way and enables to make a 100% control of a reed;
- Test certificate with quality label, which enables the reed manufacturers to demonstrate that they produce reeds with a high quality level.
In Europe the demands regarding the quality of woven cloth, especially fabrics in the technical and high fashionable field, are constantly increasing. The total European production volume of woven fabrics is 1,4 million tons per year. The reed as a central element of the weaving process influences the product quality decisively. Producing a high-quality woven cloth depends on a high-quality reed. Up to now, the determination of the reed quality is done by subjective spot checks using unsufficient methods. The aim of this research project is to develop suitable measures to assure the quality for the production of improved reeds. Based on the description and classification of reed faults and reed-caused fabric faults, a test unit for an objective quality control will be developed. It enables to establish a quality label for the European weaving industry. The cooperation of European reed manufacturers and weavers together with development partners from industry and university enables to combine industrial experience and know-how with institutional research. The partners will benefit due to the results of this project by: - increasing reed and fabric quality, - reducing quality losses and claim rates, - improving the inner European cooperation of customers and producers and - strengthening their position in the global market as a consequence.
