Objective
The objective of this project is the development of a high performance embedded system for the detection of rail profile, in order to check the wear and deformation of railroad tracks. Detection of the profile will be carried out with optoelectronic, non intrusive technology, using the principle of optic triangulation through laser beam and high resolution camera. The proposed system will be installed on conventional train carriages and will be able to detect the profile of either flange rails used in railway transport and in underground systems or grooved rail used in tram transport. The use of such a system would allow the railway transport companies to analyse accurately the state of track and thus to plan the activities of maintenance. Expected benefits will be: Increase of transport safety Decrease in maintenance costs Reduction in acoustic pollution
