Resultados aprovechables

The overall goal of this project was to develop a suitable industrial technology for manufacture of polyamide details for the automotive industry using recovered polyamides from diverse industrial sectors and to validate this technology through the cost-efficient manufacture of prototypes of automotive components (fan blades and shrouds) in accordance with the relevant standards. The project has made considerable progress in the development of recycling and compounding technical to recovery polyamide. The operation of the technology through real prototypes has been demonstrated. -To manufacture pieces for automotive industry, the first characteristic required is to have quantity and quality of the waste batches constant in the time. This is the only way to assure the continuous production of the pieces made of them. -All of the polyamide wastes that were found, from different end vehicle parts, were tested to know their degradation level. All the parts present a high content of water, their glass transition temperatures are below 30º C, when the glass transition temperature for a PA66 is around 80º C. -It was found that for a material with 30% virgin material added to the compound, the oxidative stability is slightly better than for the reference sample, when 0.4% of the two-component anti-oxidant is used. The recycled material contains residues of anti-oxidants from its previous usage. The remains of anti-oxidants may contribute to the higher thermal stability of these samples compared to the samples with 30% virgin material. -It was also found that adding 30% virgin material to the compound gives a material with significantly better mechanical properties compared to a material consisting of 100% recycled material. -The final cost for the compounds manufactured by REPOL and POLYKEMI, presented good results compared with the initial target cost.
