Rapid tooling by metal injection moulding

Objective

This project addresses an innovative approach to the rapid manufacture of production tooling for plastic injection mouldings and die casting. Industrial components are produced by over 200 000 SMEs in the EU many of these could benefit from the project. The potential benefits are significant, particularly a large reduction in time and cost to produce plastic injection moulding and die casting tooling, and also in reducing time to market for new products. The project's primary industrial and economic objectives are: - 75% reduction in time to produce production tooling for plastic injection moulding and die casting: - a decrease in cost of producing this production tooling of 25% and a reduction in development time of new products by 10% This will lead to improved competitiveness of SMEs involved in plastic injection moulding and die casting. As both processes are used extensively throughout Europe, the economic and social benefits are considerable.
