Study and development of a new cutting and placing technology for integration, automation, of the quality shoe fabrication multi-processes

Objetivo

The European shoe industry, located principally in southern European countries has to compete hardly with many Asian productions and with other delocalized centers of production (Eastern countries). The high quality shoes segments offer a better resistance capacity, of facing to the invading products in the low prices shoe market. Despite these considerations, the industrial actors have to constantly reduce their production costs, meanwhile they have to guarantee and enhance the quality aspects in order to keep their positioning advantages. The raw materials for luxurious shoes manufacturing become more diversified and reach generally high pricing levels for some special materials. The raw materials cost represents up to 50% of the whole manufacturing expenses, including the working costs. Therefore, any reduction costs programmes are well appreciated by the shoe manufacturers, furthermore innovation systems, for a better quality shoe production, have to be promotionned on a large scale. Furthermore, twice a year for the new collection designs the shoe makers need to manufacture a few pieces in a short time for magazines and media, so any reduction in time processing ( essentially the cutting operations) would be appreciated. Thefocusof this Research and Development programmeis toimprove qualify, reliability by reducing accident risks of bad shoes (refused by the quality certification department or refused by the final client), and by assuming new production controls operating modes. The general aim of the Research project is to audit the actual multi processes high quality shoe fabrication and to develop a Prototype with new Cutting and Placing Expertising technologies, in order to optimize the process chain. This very innovative purpose will be able to determine a better quality control for the whole process operations, allowing to state on repetitive majordefects, outside and inside the raw materials. Moreover, this project concerns the enterprises working on little series of high quality leather shoes, in which those operations are actually made by hand This development, will be conducted in parallel research ways, the first concerning the Cutting operations, the second concerning the Placing Expertising of the raw materials, for a final integration of both technologies in a multi processes automatic machine. The process development will need to be undertaken by the industrial SMEs after completion of this 23 months research project, and by other partners to enlarge the innovation for a wider European dissemination.
