THE EUROPEAN GREEN CITIES RESPONSIBLE NEIGHBOURHOOD CITIES [PHASE 2]

Objective

Introduce an integrated sustainable global solar low energy design in new built and retrofit building projects. Creating a network of European cities and regions with the goal of introducing environmental criteria in their future urban planning, by building or retrofitting of 645 solar low energy dwellings in 5 countries and public buildings in 2 other. Savings in energy and water use.
Innovation: innovative techniques include improved ventilation design, healthy building materials, high fraction solar heating, avoiding summer cooling, PV powered ventilation, energy management systems, solar DHW.
As a part of large development plans for new-built or retrofit in 11 European Cities, which deal with a total number of up to 30000 dwellings it is proposed to realise local demonstration projects with a total of 645 solar low energy dwellings in DK, FR, ES, IT, UK, BE and AT together with public buildings in Finland and Greece.
In the European Green Cities - Integrated Quality Target Project it is the intention to introduce an integrated sustainable global solar low energy design using best available technologies in new build and retrofit building projects based on energy and environmental assessment together with a total energy and total economy approach, E.G. using new energy efficient building. To ensure that the most cost effective solutions are selected, early price calculations will be performed in co-operation with contractors for all projects.
The innovative sustainable building approach includes :
- introduction of user or humidity controlled reduced ventilation rates of up to 50% of normal standard will be investigated based on improved ventilation design and building materials without unwanted emissions.
- integrated solar heating design with the highest possible contribution in the heating season and avoidance of cooling in summer, PV solar energy for ventilation and optimised energy supply systems with the help of Energy Management System Control.
