Objective
Topic 1 - Reinforced concrete frames and walls: to clarify the interrelation between a number of design parameters used in EC8 which, in a combined form, influence the non linear behaviour of structures subjected to earthquake motion, in order to revise the appropriate clauses of EC8.
Topic 2 - Infilled Frames: contributing to the revision of all EC8 clauses which relate to the effect of infills on the seismic response and seismic design of reinforced concrete frame or dual systems.
Topic 3 - Bridges: the main objectives are essentially related to regularity and q-factor procedures for bridges. Secondary objectives are related to capacity design procedures, second order effects, asynchronous motion to piers and isolation and dissipation devices.
Topic 4 - Foundations: to practically overcome the deficiencies in the state of the art on the topic, reflected in Part 5 of EC8, in order to revise the appropriate clauses of EC8.
Detailed information related to the characteristics of reinforcing steel produced in most European countries has been collected. Thirty six frames to be analysed using nonlinear dynamic programs have been designed. Pseudodynamic and shake table tests have been designed.
A new formulation for an infill element has been developed and implemented. Parametric analyses have been started. Pseudodynamic and shake table tests have been designed.
Parametric analyses on regular and irregular bridges have been completed. A regularity factor has been proposed. Pseudodynamic tests on unusually large scale models of bridge (1:2:5) and shaking table tests on models scaled to 1:8 have been designed.
Finite element analyses of shallow and deep foundations have been completed. Simplified formulations for specific cases have been proposed. A shake table test on a superficial foundation has been designed.
