Objective
The network is aimed at the study of Matter in extreme conditions of very high energy density. This physical situation can arise from different mechanisms, as the inertial confinement of matter samples due to the effect of driving beams. The network will elaborate studies and compilations of atomic and nuclear data relevant to those matter conditions, particularly opacities and equations of state. Another specific objective is the study of the hydrodynamic regimes of matter under very high pressure gradients. In some applications, the generation of strong magnetic fields will be included. Production and transport of X-rays in laser and particle beams-produced plasmas will be also investigated. In particular, the use of light ion accelerators will be taken into account both for the generation of shock waves and for X-ray production, under different physical conditions.
A complete study of the interaction with matter of very energetic clusters of molecules has been performed, including a theory on the stopping power and the hydrodynamic reactions. An intercomparison study of opacities (extinction coefficients) at very high temperature and density is well advanced. The study is based on the calculations with different models developed by several institutions in the network.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
