HIGH LEVEL PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE FOR ROBOTIZED ASSEMBLY

Objective

A structured assembly model has been produced, which contains all the information required for automatic generation of assembly sequences. An automatic, systematic and user friendly method for generating assembly sequences has been designed. The method automates the routine part of assembly sequence generation. It involves 2 steps: generation of precedence constraints and generation of assembly sequences. This division is due to the compactness of the precedence constraint representation of assembly sequences. The proposed software automatically generates geometrical, mechanical, component and stacking constraints. The operator selects the relations to be taken into account in generating legitimate assembly sequences. The selected sequences are displayed in the form of assembly graphs.

The general methodology developed in the project has enabled treatment of real cases in which the assemblies examined have comprised from 15 to 25 parts. For a greater number of parts, it becomes necessary to divide the product into subassemblies before generating sequences. The experimental results compare favourably with industrial reality: the running time for a problem including 64 operations is of the order of one minute on a 4D35 Silicon Graphics (33 Mips). The size of this problem confortably covers the majority of industry's needs. Nevertheless, should that not be enough, preliminary tests suggest that problems of up to 200 tasks could still be handled in a reasonable time.

Station scheduling is an important aspect and work has mainly dealt with collision avoidance and collision free trajectory planning in a 2-cooperating robot assembly station. The approach is based on the use of a heuristic evaluation function. It uses the strategies of time delay and automatic path generation to avoid mutual collision. The system has been tested on the assembly of a family of electrical signalling relays with satisfactory results.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
