Objective
THE PROPOSAL FOCUSSES ON THE STUDY OF EMISSIONS 0F BIOGENIC VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS. THE EMPHASIS IS ON OXYGENATED HYDROCARBONS. IT IS PLANNED TO ADAPT THE METHODS DEVELOPED UP TO NOW AS PART 0F THE PROJECT AND TO USE THE METHODS FOR STUDIES OF BIOGENIC EMISSIONS 0F ORGANIC COMPOUNDS IN SLOVENIA. FURTHERMORE IT IS PLANNED TO PARTICIPATE IN JOINT FIELD STUDIES TO ALLOW MORE INTENSIVE INVESTIGATIONS AND TO TEST THE QUALITY 0F THE EXPERIMENTAL METHODS. FINALLY THE ANALYTICAL METHODS WILL BE OPTIMIZED WITH RESPECT TO REPRODUCIBILITY AND DETECTION LIMITS.
THE ADDITIONAL PROPOSAL IS FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH THE OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT TO INVESTIGATE EMISSIONS 0F BIOGENIC OXYGENATED VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS AND THEIR IMPACT ON THE CHEMISTRY OF THE ATMOSPHERE. IT ADDS SEVERAL RELEVANT COMPONENTS TO THE PROJECT WHICH WILL RESULT IN VALUABLE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. THE VALUE OF THE PROPOSED RESEARCH IS AS WELL CAUSED BY THE POSSIBILITY OF THE ADDITIONAL PARTICIPANT To CARRY OUT INVESTIGATIONS IN REGIONS WHICH ARE NOT INVESTIGATED BY THE OTHER PARTICIPANTS AS THE EXPERIENCES IN THE FIELD OF ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY AND ATMOSPHERIC CHEMISTRY. THE MAIN BENEFITS WILL BE:
- ESTMATES OF EMISSION RATES FROM VEGETATION TYPES WHICH REPRESENT A PART 0F EUROPE, WHICH IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE ORIGINAL PROGRAM, INCLUDING SOME MEDITERRANEAN REGIONS. THIS WILL GIVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE REGIONAL VARIABILITY OF BIOGENIC EMISSIONS AND THE RELATIVE IMPORTANCE OF THE VARIOUS TYPES OF BIOGENIC ORGANIC TRACE GASES.
- THE ADAPTION, TEST AND OPTIMIZATION 0F THE METHODS FOR EMISSION RATE DETERMINATION, WHICH HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED AS PART 0F THE EXISTING PROJECT, WILL IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF THE MEASUREMENTS AND GIVE FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT THE POTENTIAL 0F THESE EXPERIMENTAL TECHNIQUES.
