External costs of transport and internalisation

Objective



THE CENTRAL EUROPEAN COUNTRIES ARE TRANSFORMING THEIR ECONOMY FROM AN CENTRALLY PLANNED TO A MARKET ECONOMY. THE PUBLIC TRANSPORT SYSTEM IS GENERALLY REASONABLY WELL DEVELOPED. HOWEVER THE POLLUTION FROM TRANSPORT IS VERY LARGE AND WILL INCREASE SUBSTANTIALLY BY GROWING PRIVAT CARS AND GOODS TRANSPORT BY TRUCKS.
THEREFORE IT IS RELEVANT FOR RESEARCH INSTITUTS IN POLAND, CZECH REPUBLIC AND BULGARIA TO PARTICIPATE IN AN EU, DG XII, ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME PROJECT "EXTERNAL COSTS 0F TRANSPORT AND INTERNALISATION". THIS IN ORDER TO GET KNOWLEDGE ABOUT USEFUL EC METHODES AND ESTIMATES FOR APPLICATION TO THE SITUATIONIN EASTERN EUROPE.
OBJECTIVES ARE TRANSPORT OF KNOWLEDGE AND CONDUCTING A CASE STUDY FOR THE CAPITALS 0F THEIR RESPECTIVE COUNTRY. THIS TO INDENTIFY LIMITS AND BENEFITS 0F THIS TYPE OF RESEARCH FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN CENTRAL EUROPE. REPORTS WILL BE PROVIDED ONT HE RELEVANCE OF EC METHODS AND ESTIMATES IN FORMULATION OF TRANSPORT POLICIES FOR THEIR COUNTRIES.
