Objetivo
THE CAPP STUDY (CONCERTED ACTION POLYPOSIS PREVENTION) is a multicentre multi-disciplinary intervention trial to assess the effects of resistant starch and aspirin as a preventative measure for polyp formation and colon cancer in young individuals at high genetic risk of these disorders. Power analysis indicates that we will need to randomise 400 individuals to our factorial design to have reasonable prospects of identifying a therapeutic benefit. To date, we have obtained the full support of 35 registers in 14 European'countries. It is important for the success of the study to continue enrolment as quickly as possible at this stage. Poland and Hungary have well developed medical systems and the surgeons and gastroenterologists responsible for the care of patients with familial adenomatous polyposis have expressed great enthusiasm for joining our Concerted Action. In so doing, they will enhance the clinical and genetic development in their own country and allow us to improve the molecular genetic diagnostic facilities available while at the same time bringing to the European collaborative study a large cohort of potential participants which will substantially improve the power of our study.
