Objective
The European Stroke Database Project is a large scale collaboration between clinical research centres in EU Countries whose main aims are: a) To create a common clinical language for epidemiological studies and clinical trials in stroke and to publish a European Manual of Stroke Assessments.
b) To collect baseline information needed for planning future trials of service organisation, medical treatment and rehabilitation, and to identify clinical issues to be addressed in such trials.
This application aims to extend the collaboration to major stroke research centres in E. Europe. This will allow the incidence, clinical care and outcome of stroke to be compared in E. European countries (where mortality rates are rising) and W. countries (where they are mostly falling). The collaboration aims to improve methods od case ascertainment, to standardise clinical terminology, assessments and methods of outcome. and health economic evaluation. This will be essential for collaborative epidemiological studies and clinical trials in the future.
