Enhancement and development of industrial applications of solar energy technologies

Objective

This work is devoted to further development of material treatment. methods carried out within the scope of "Human Capital and Mobility programme," subtask "Large-Scale Facilities".
This proposal includes the participation of the Institute for High Temperatures of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IVTAN) to use the Russian experience in fabrication and testing of materials for space applications and investigation of their properties. In addition to the current research programs in the affect of highly concentrated solar radiation on different materials, this proposal includes experimental simulation of the main factors of space flight on material properties:
- the effect of O-atom high speed fluxes on surface etching processes using special shock tube to produce high speeds (up to 8 kms/s)O-atom collisionless beams.
- simulation of thermal loads of reentry vehicle using solar radiation concentrator and technological vacuum chamber to expose test specimens to high intensity light fluxes (up to 300 W/cm2) and controlled gas conditions
- development of new method for solid state surface analysis based on control of polarizing parameters of the reelected signalsource or probe radiation
This proposal should achieve the following objectives:
1. Investigation of the dependence of surface properties of materials on different conditions of their use especially for space applications -
2. Development of a materials surface modification method
3. Development of a new method of surface monitoring based on polarizing analysis
4. Involving Russian materials for space application under investigation
The work can be extended to include simulation of other space flight conditions and electron beams, electro-magnetic shock waves, etc.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
