Objective Robot welding systems are not in widespread use due to complexities involved in their programming. Current robot programming methods cannot ensure flexible production since the time spent in off-line-programming is too long and the methods involved too elaborate. This project aims to implement a PC-based programming system for arc welding robots specifically intended for use in one-off-production runs. The programming system will be able to include sensor strategies for managing uncertainties during the execution of the welding process, thus increasing welding quality. This CAD-based programming system will be usable either stand-alone or within a CIM environment. The software will provide a variety of functions which will enable the user to program robot tasks in a very short time. The communication module for information transfer between the robot controller and the programming system will be based upon the MAP 3.0 standard. This will guarantee the necessary flexibility even at the lower end of the production process.
