New full-width-temple for technical fabrics

Objective

Cylinder temples, which are used for the weaving of clothing fabrics, produces often a bad quality in the field of technical fabrics. Here we can state 3 major problems :

- in the field of technical textiles the fabric has to lay absolutely flat for many following processes like the coating for tarpaulin fabrics
- scrims have to have exactly rectangular axes from warp and weft threads. The well-known effect on weft distortion, while using cylinder temples cannot be accepted for industrial fabrics
- in many applications of lifesaving articles like airbags and blood filters needle impingements causes a malfunction.

There is one temple-system at weaving machines known, which realizes theoretically the mentioned demands. As a result of its basic design, the full-width-temple gives some advantages, it causes neither weft distortion nor needle impignements, because it grips the full fabric width. The systems, which are available on the market, have a very small share of the market. Mainly there are two reasons :

1) little knowledge about optimal geometries of the profile and
2) high costs of profiles, which are made of brass.

For that reasons, it is necessary to do research work in the principle function of full-width temples. The final aim of this project is the new full-width-temple, which works more efficient at a lower cost level. The main points of interest of this R&D project are to optimize the geometry of the profile with an emphasis on the use of alternative materials with suitable surface treatments.
