Quick response manufacturing within the garment industry to include activity based costing, EDI and CAD/CAM.

Objective

Description : Quick Response Manufacturin is a new concept within the Garment Manufacturing Industry. The flexibility it offers the buyers within large chain stores and European Public Procurement Sectors, is becoming a mandatory requirement by them to cater for the ever changing fashion markets. It is also an opportunity for EC producers to win back market share from low labour cost countries outside the EC because a Quick Response methodology coupled with a proximity to the market will give them a competitive advantage over such remote producers. A systemised procedure for the successful implementation and operation of QR Manufacturing within the Garment Industry needs to be designed, developed and tested in real Gfe conditions. New software applications for QR control in real- time and pre-production activity controls must be developed along with interface software capable of integrating the current "Islands of Technology " of PMS and CAD applications that are currently being used in the industry. This project aims to research the feasibility of such a software system and if feasible to design a Logical Model for a development phase of the project and to document the requirements of a QR Methodology and propose a Stylised Methodology for it's successful implementation m the Garrnent Manufacturing Industry.
