Objective
The new legislation in various countries (and especially in EEC) impose strict limitations to NOx emissions.
The aim of the operation is to adjust a process permitting to reduce at the lower level the NOx emissions during pulverized coal combustion in a tangentially fired boiler.
1) The chosen site is a 250 MW unit (BLENOD Power Stations Unit 2) - FRANCE).
2) This unit is already equipped with pulverized coal enrichers (contract Nr. CS 98. 86. The efficiency of this system for the lowering of the technical minimum load has been tested).
The enrichers already permits to increase the pulverized coal concentration in the enriched phase injected in the boiler.
3) The tests carried on a 1 MW/th pilot (contract EEC Nr CS 362 85 FR) show that, to obtain a significant reduction of the NOx emissions, it is necessary to reach a pulverized coal concentration in the enriched phase superior to what is presently obtained and to recirculate the gases towards the furnace.
4) To achieve this aim, it is necessary, on the one hand to modify 4 out of 5 existing mills (installation of vane wheels) and on the other hand to install flue gas recirculation lines.
