AESTHETICAL, ADJUSTABLE, SERVICEABLE AND MAINSTAY TEXTILES FOR DISABLED AND ELDERLY

Objective

Clothes and the material used to make them can affect both physical and psychological aspects of daily life for elderly and disabled people. Clothing produced with standard patterns do not fit persons with body dimensions deviating from the average, and conventional patterns have to be tailor-made to individuals. EASYTEX will use an automated measuring system, and data will be transferred to a CAD/CAM pattern design unit that will provide the control information for the cutting of garment parts to individual dimensions before they are put together. A database of authoritative information on varied textile and clothing suppliers for elderly and disabled people will be supplied in brochures and on CD-ROM and the Internet at day care centres throughout Europe, with information also being provided to industry and research groups.
