Objective
The devices developed by this project represent a breakthrough in information and communications technologies for blind and low vision people. They will considerably improve the physical possibilities of printing Braille and Moon characters and consequently extend their use. These can be produced faster and less noisily by printers and telefax machines on paper, plastic and other materials, and the addition of colour will allow characters for both blind and sighted persons to be printed on the same document. The device's unlimited graphics capability will remove the geometric limitations to on-line output of graphics, for example enabling blind children to learn geometry alongside sighted children in integrated education systems. The use of Moon characters by elderly people will also be revolutionised as its production gets easier.
