CARING FOR THE ELDERLY IN THE INFORMATION SOCIETY ERA

Objective

In the information society telematics technology can help break down the social and physical isolation of elderly people and improve not only their health but their quality of life, supporting social and common interest groups regardless of geographical locations. In the RISE System specialised software programmes will use telematics and advanced communications to increase the effectiveness of organisations and health professionals supporting independent living for elderly people. It will also be usable by disabled people or those with special needs. Multimedia, health telematics, smart-cards and portable computers will be used to provide clients with integrated services, including telemedicine, homecare support, home environmental systems, and various teleservices including entertainment, communications and special interest groups support.
