VISUAL IMPAIRED SCREEN BASED TELEPHONY

Objetivo

The increasing addition of visual text displays and screens is transforming the standard telephone. Caller identification, call diversion services, and telematic services like home banking, teleshopping, and access to databases are being introduced. The spread of display and screen-based telephony will greatly increase as these services become more widespread (1.4. million screen phones estimated by year 1998). However, blind and visually impaired users, as well as older users, will increasingly become disadvantaged if visual services on telephone networks proliferate without being well designed and adaptable to their particular needs. Previous TIDE research on access to graphical user interfaces and public terminals provides a basis for screen phone adaptations,, but certain features require further development and evaluation. This project aims to address this need.
