Exploitable results

This research project has developed a robotics mobility aid which guides frail blind people, while at the same time giving them physical support as they walk. The mobility aid will improve users' personal autonomy by removing the need for complete dependence on caregivers. It provides users with navigational and physical support by avoiding obstacles and providing warnings about risks near the robot. The PAM-AID device will benefit society by reducing the cost of care of the elderly. It will also improve their quality of life. It is intended that this device will be used in residential nursing homes. In a broader perspective, applications are possible in any industrial context in which humans and machines co-operate to achieve a specific task. It is worth noting that all prototypes have been tested and validated by users.
