Objective
People with cognitive disabilities - mental handicaps, brain damage or dementia - experience difficulties coping with daily life. They have to rely on others for assistance, leading to dependency and sometimes life in institutions. Computers with suitable software showing pictures and symbols can provide valuable support to such people and enable them to carry out activities previously found impossible, thus helping them to lead more independent lives. This project aims to develop suitable software for decision support in carrying out household activities, participating in social life, communicating with the outside world and working. The result will be flexible software modules adaptable to individuals' needs and daily environments, an increased awareness of cognitive disabilities and the ability of technology to reduce isolation, increase independence and social interaction.
