EDI in the Tyre Industry

Objetivo

EDITYRE is a pilot EDI project based around an existing project under development in the Netherlands by the Dutch Tyre Association (VACO). EDITYRE extends the existing project to create a new European EDI community from companies in the tyre industry and to implement EDI techniques to automate parts of their inter-company trading requirements which are of international interest.

To fit into the ambitious timescales of the project, the EDITYRE approach is based upon the following beliefs:
part of the new community should be formed from an existing community where members are already committed to, and knowledgeable in, EDI;
the pilot community should be limited to a maximum of 12 members in order that progress meetings are manageable and, indeed, feasible;
the number of countries involved should reflect the international nature of the project but, in order to achieve the pilot objectives, should be limited;
the number of documents and messages to be involved in the EDI implementation should be limited to no more than five for the pilot project.
The pilot project is divided into the three phases organisation of the user group, support and consultancy and evaluation.
Organisation of the user group: This phase is concerned with establishing a user group consisting of up to twelve companies and representatives of up to four tyre associations. It has been decided to restrict the participants from UK, France and West Germany to only two of the six sectors of the tyre industry.
Support and consultancy: Throughout the implementation stage of the project a range of consulting support and project management services will be provided to the participating companies. Four types of consultancy have been anticipated: general management consultancy, specific technical support, general implementation support and advice, global coordination and project management.
Participating companies in EDITYRE will formally analyse the success from their point of view against some pre-defined success criteria. These will be discussed and consolidated at an evaluation seminar attended by all participants. It is intended that participation companies will continue EDITYRE by 'spreading the word' and encouraging their business partners to make the investment to join the community.
