AN ABSORPTION-RESORPTION HEAT PUMP FOR SPACE HEATING; INVESTIGATION OF SOLUTE PAIRS

Objective

A REFRIGERANT, WHICH HAS VERY INTERESTING CHARACTERISTICS IS CO2. IT IS LARGELY AVAILABLE, NEITHER TOXIC NOR INFLAMMABLE. IT HAS HOWEVER A LOW CONDENSATION TEMPERATURE (- 78 DEGREES C) AND A HIGH PRESSURE AT 10 - 40 DEGREES C. THIS MAKES CO2 NOT VERY SUITABLE FOR AN ABSORPTION HEAT PUMP. IF HOWEVER THE CONDENSOR IS REPLACED BY AN ABSORBER AND THE EVAPORATOR BY A GENERATOR (USING WASTE HEAT), THIS PROBLEM MAY BE SOLVED. SUCH AN ABSORPTION-RESORPTION HEAT PUMP WITH CO2/AMINE AS A WORKING FLUID PAIR HAS BEEN CALCULATED TO HAVE AN EFFICIENCY OF 151 % AND 187 % FOR DIGLYCOLAMINE AND DIETHANOLAMINE RESPECTIVELY, WITH WASTE HEAT AT 0 DEGREE C, DELIVERED HEAT BETWEEN 35 - 75 DEGREES C AND A GENERATOR TEMPERATURE OF 180 DEGREES C.

THE SOLUBILITY OF A NUMBER OF CO2-SOLVENT COMBINATIONS HAS BEEN MEASURED. DATA HAVE BEEN COLLECTED ON THE ABSORPTION-RESORPTION OF CO2. AN EXPERIMENTAL CIRCUIT WAS SET UP TO TEST THE "ABSORPTION CYCLE" AT HIGH TEMPERATURES AND THE "RESORPTION CYCLE" AT LOW TEMPERATURES. THE INSTALLATION WAS RUN WITH CO2 AND AN AQUOUS SOLUTION OF DEA AND CO2 WITH A SOLUTION OF DEA IN NMP. ALL COMPONENTS OF THE CIRCUIT OPERATED SATISFACTORY WITH THE EXCEPTION OF TWO HEAT EXCHANGERS. THIS IS ATTRIBUTED TO THE SMALL SIZE (1 KW) OF THE INSTALLATION; IT IS BELIEVED THAT IN AN INSTALLATION OF 10-15 KW THESE PROBLEMS CAN BE SOLVED.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
