BLAST FURNACE GAS AND OXYGEN ENRICHED AIR ON SLAB REHEATING FURNACE

Objective

To modify an existing furnace for experiments on replacement of the fuel-oil with blast furnace gas and oxygen enriched combustion air.
This project was stopped because the important expected sale of coke-oven gas to the chemical industry was not realized. The state of advancement of this program at the contract cancellation date was as following :
- the studies on the furnaces modifications were realized.
- the burners were modified to work either with low enriched blast furnace gas and oxygen enriched combustion air to a rate of 40 %, or with rich gas and atmospheric air.
The heavy plate mill is equipped with 2 pusher furnaces :
- A 110 T/H furnace with 3 reheating zones
- A 180 T/H furnace with 5 reheating zones
For this experiment the 110 T/H furnace only will be modified. To allow this furnace to work with low up-graded gas and oxygen enriched combustion air, it is necessary to increase the dimension of the gas feeding pipes, to modify the burners and to build a new oxygen network to feed each burner with oxygen. To protect the waste gas circuit and the recuperator, a new protection system is also foreseen.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
