Objectif To shorten and improve the wire galvanization process by a joule effect annealing of the wire prior to its galvanization, in contrast to the conventional method involving additional processes for cooling, acid and flux treatments and reheating. This simultaneous annealing/galvanization helps in shortening the length of the installation as well as the time and energy consumption of the process and cancells the use of hazardous and polluting materials. For a 40 t/day production rate and 9.350 t/year, an energy saving of 554 TOE is expected at project level. Payback time is estimated at 3.4 years. In this novel galvanization method the wire to be galvanized is degreased, leaded in a bath at 450 deg.C annealed by Joule effect at 800/950 deg.C galvanized at 465 deg.C and finally chilled by water. In this way, processes like patenting, descaling and fluxing, used among others in the conventional method are eliminated. In this way primary energy is economized, while polluting materials like acid and flux, are eliminated.By this process the annealing energy is recovered, the production speed is optimized, the production process length is reduced and the operation costs are lowered.
