Objective
The aim of this project is to generate electricity from cement kiln waste heat. Hot gases from the preheater exhaust and hot air from coolers will be used to raise steam.
The main innovative aspects are to design heat exchangers that will operated in a dust rich gas and integrated control of several boilers.
The project is mainly intended to produce steam from kiln and cooling grates hot gases that normally rescape into the atmosphere. This steam will be used to operate a turbine connected to an alternator generating electric power. The total power output planned is 8710 kW, i.e. a usable output of 8100 kW. On the basis of 300 working days, the energy produced will amount to approximately 58 GWh. The heat recovery of kiln gases and air from the coolers cannot and will not affect the quality of drying of either the raw meal or coal. There will be no negative effect either on kiln operation as it is assumed that this process will contribute to higher efficiency and regularity of the operation. The gas treatment towers will no longer be needed, thus making it possible to reduce water consumption and maintenance costs. It will be possible for electrostatic filters to operate with lower input temperatures and reduce dust, which ought to improve dedusting efficiency.
