Objective
To replace the combustion chamber of a turbine with a heat exchanger to draw heat from the fluidized bed in which combustion takes place, and to provide the total heating necessary to meet the basic requirements of a district heating system: heat is tapped from the turbine outlet and combustion gases.
Underestimation of the corrosion risk posed to the exchanger by sulphur oxides and dust residue delayed project commencement, the timetable for which is being revised.
The unit consists of fluidized bed, heat generator set and a recovery exchanger. The fluidized bed (with a grate measuring 4x3 m, containing a vessel of 10 m in height) is being fitted with a shell and tube exchanger to maintain bed temperature at 850 deg C.
The heat generator consists of a 13,820 rpm. turbine and 1500 rpm. generator. Inlet air pressure will be 9.6 Bar and 9.3 Bar at the outlet. Inlet air temperature will be 980 deg C and 530 deg C at the outlet. The recovery exchanger is of 5,800 Kw power rating, exchange surface of 65 m2 and a tube diameter of 25 mm.
The same principle of turbine recovered heat from combustion gases could be applied to gaseous emissions from petro-chenical plants and coal-fired units.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
