Objective
To demonstrate a high efficiency 100-125 HP hammer mill for the manufacture of animal feed, based on similar smaller 5-50 HP mills developed by the same company.
A 50 % saving in electrical consumption is expected compared to conventional mills with a horizontal straft, while a payback period of 1 year is foreseen.
The raw material, fed by gravity, is milled by hammers located perpendicularly to the vertical straft, without being transported by these hammers. Twenty hammers are foreseen, each with 4 working positions. The hammers are surrounded by a cylindrical sieve allowing the exit of the ground particles at the right size.
A saving of 50 %, i.e. 732000 kWh/yr for 330 days/yr and 24 h/day, is expected compared to conventional horizontal mills. Further advantages of the vertical mill are a low level of vibrations and no powder losses into the atmosphere. The design of the mill is innovatory.
