Objective
To demonstrate energy savings in processing poultry offal by mechanical separation and using waste heat from process vapours.
The smess process preheats offals followed by mechanical prepress. The solid phase is transported to an equacoocker for further drying and fat separation. The liquid phase is fed to an evaporator. Waste heat from the equacoocker is used in this process. Evaporation occurs in flash vessel which is maintained at low pressure. An energy saving of 35% per process kg is calculated. An annual saving of 1617 TOE will be achieved when 75600 T of offal are processed. The mechanical prepressing, preheating and evaporator design are claimed to be innovatory.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
