Objective
The aim of the project is for Air Products and Sulzer to collaborate to build a recycle compressor, for the liquefaction of oxygen and nitrogen, which is 7% more efficient than anything currently available and 16% more efficient than the previous generation.
The compressor will be tested at full power to prove its thermodynamic performance. Its long term reliability will be proved by running it as a production unit at Air Products Ellesmere Port.
Sulzer will build the ompression Setion and Air Products will build the cooler skids and the cooling water system. Air Products will be responsible for the design, procurement and installation of all the support systems required to make the compressor into an operating unit at Ellesmere Port.
The energy savings will be made in the following areas:
1. Advanced aerodynamics 3%
2. Advanced coolers giving lower gas re-entry
temperatures and lower interstage pressure drops 2.2%
3. Mechanical Seals with negligible loss 1%
4. Low loss bearing and reduction in gear losses 0.8%
-----
7%
The compressor will be built to perform the following duty:
flow : 86,000 mm3/h nitrogen
suction temperature: 250 deg. C
suction pressure: 6.16 bara
discharge pressure: 31.5 bara
cooling watertemperature: 16.5 deg. C
and it will be installed as a production compressor in a 350MT/D Oxygen/Nitrogen liquefier. Its thermodynamic performance and mechanical reliability will be verified by running at full power.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
