ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION INCREASE IN A COGENERATION PLANT BY ADDING STEAM TO THE GAS TURBINE AND MODIFYING AIRCOOLED BLADES

Objective

The aim of the project is to increase the energy output of the turbines of the power plant of the motor oil (Hellas) refinery.
This is achieved first, by replacing the first row of stable aircooled blades which are located exactly after the outlet of the hot gases, with others which will not be cooled, and second by the automatic humidification of the inflowing air, depending on the external temperature.
These two features are combined for the first time into a new innovative design, and will result in an increase in energy output.

The power plant of the refinery consists of two gas turbines burning a great part of the refinery gases, which were previously led to the flare. The project will involve the replacement of the first row of the stable aircooled blades, which are located exactly after the outlet of the hot gases produced during the fuel gas burning process, with other new design blades, which will not be cooled. The second feature of the project will be the automatic humididcation of the inflowing air, depending on the external temperature, This feature rectifies the problem of high temperatures during the summer months, which could cause a reduction in energy efficiency during those months.
The rated power increase of the project will be equal to 1.8 MW for each turbine which will give an annual energy output of about 28.800 x (10)3 KWh. The energy efficiency attained will be 39,2 percent and the energy conservation will be equal to 2.600 TOE per annum.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
