Objective
To treat and recycle sinter fines produced during sinter screening and to use them directly thus avoiding recooking. The proposed process is materialized by on site screening and cold compacting of 200000 t/y of sinter fines with a production of 20 t/h of pellets directly loaded to the top of the blast furnace. The operation consists in coating the fines with a binding agent made of molasses and lime and the compacting between two alveolated cylinders. Innovative aspects : the cold compacting process applied to sinter fines on the very site of production.
The sinter is screened at 5 mm with the existing screen. The fine product is again at 2,5 mm with an special screen. The higher part than 2,5 mm is directly used by the blast furnace. The small part is compacted with a binding agent made of molasses and lime. The pellets produced are directly used by the blast furnace.
