ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION WITHOUT FUEL CONSUMPTION FROM THE POWER OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES ON TEST BEDS

Objective

To demonstrate the possibility of recovering energy from the braking systems used to test engines, by replacing the conventional brakes by an oleodynamic pump driving an alternator.
At the end of the planning stage, and before the actual design and construction, a check both of overall costs and availability of partners has been carried out.
Owing to the increased costs of equipment, and unavailability of those car manufacturers that had formerly declared their interest, the project didn't show anymore an acceptable financial result, and any further development was halted.
The conventional hydraulic or electric brakes will be replaced by oleodynamic pump with axial pistons with variable displacement. The power produced will be transmitted to the fluid in the form of pressure (kept constant at 20 MPA) and oil flow and will power a variable displacement hydraulic motor driving an alternator.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
