Objective
Energy management and control by using the GESTHERM system in 15 existing buildings located in Paris. ( 9 apartment buildings managed by a social dwelling company and 6 public buildings managed by the Municipality of Paris).
The expected energy savings are 8% for autonomous working of GESTHERM. A further 5% saving is expected by centralized management of interconnected systems.
The technical problems encountered mainly dealt with the integration of GESTHERM devices with the existing electrical plants, as well as with the data transmission through telephone lines via modems.
During phase 2 the importance of the interventions of the persons responsible was highlighted.
Analysis of the results allows for average yearly energy saving of 6% for the centralized management of interconnected systems with peaks up to 18 and 23% during periods with mild temperatures (12 deg. C).
The mean annual efficiency for a boiler plant is comprised between 77,0 % and
78,7% in case of (bad or good, resp.) manual management and becomes 82,0% in case of automatic management by GESTHERM.
The annual saving expected was 2460 MWh/yr (or 8%), the actual values are 1845 MWh/yr or 6% resp.
The computerized management and control are carried out through the "GESTHERM" (automatic regulation) taking into consideration the thermal characteristics and behaviour of the buildings. Only complementary equipment directly related to the GESTHERM system such as sensors, control panels, is added to the existing installations. Other adaptations such as the implementation of motorized valves, hydraulic modifications, ... are not considered.
The initial project included 3 phases :
(1) implementation of autonomous GESTHERM devices in the boiler plant of each building and individual monitoring
(2) interconnection of autonomous devices for centralized management of boiler plants and monitoring (3) analysis and report.
Due to administrative problems and changes in the policy of both the social dwelling company and the Municipality of Paris, phase 2 had to be cancelled and replaced by monitoring during one heating season.
