FLEXIBLE COGENERATION FOLLOWING HEAT DEMAND

Objective

To improve energy saving on an existing urban waste incineration plant.
The way the plant operates now is such that the expectation in relation with energy saving will be realised.
One out of three existing municipal waste incinerators of Arnhem is provided with a boiler supplying hot water (26 MWTH) to a district heating network. A steam boiler with 10% spare capacity (29 MWTH) & condensation turbine (10 MWE) is installed to supply heat and/or electricity.
During low heat demand periods, the existing boiler serves as pre-heating unit for the steamboiler, allowing efficiency improvement increase in thermal energy for the DH network as high as 100 TJ/year while the electric production (73,5 GWH) is purchased by the local company.
Innovation : existing hot water boiler improves efficiency of cogenerative steamboiler during low heat-demand period (summer).

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
