COSIMA aims develop a computerised integrated contaminated sites management support system to assist environment planning officials and other experts in identifying, assessing and cleaning sites. The service, centred on a commercially available geographic information system, will manage large sets of maps, graphics, photographs, text and tables in order to support the activities related to the remidial planning of contamined sites. A harmonised European data model for contaminated sites will be set-up. The COSIMA consortium comprises five cities: Cologne (D), Cork (IRL), Bologna (I), Amsterdam (NL) and Katowice (PL). Targets are all the larger cities in Europe (more than 250,000 inhabitants) especially those with a major industrial history.
