Objective
THIS PROJECT DEALS WITH THE STUDY OF TECHNICAL FACTIBILITY AND ECONOMIC COSTS IN SPAIN FOR ETHANOL PRODUCTION FROM JERUSALEM ARTICHOKE.
THE WORK WILL BE DEVELOPED IN COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE INSTITUTO DE ENERGIAS RENOVABLES (CIEMAT) OF SPAIN AND THE FRENCH FIRM ETHANOL RECHERCHES ET DEVELOPPEMENTS (ERD) OF FRANCE. THE PILOT PLANT STUDIES WILL BE CARRIED OUT AT THAT ERD HAS IN BETHENEVILLE.
THE PILOT PLANT HAS A CAPACITY TO TREAT 10-20 TM FRESH TUBERS A DAY AND IT WILL BE CONTINOUSLY OPERATED WITH J.ARTICHOKE TUBERS FOR AT LEAST ONE MONTH (JANUARY OR FEBRUARY 1989).
THE MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THIS WORK ARE :
A) TO EVALUATE AT BETHENEVILLE'S THE TECHNICAL FACTIBILITY OF THE TRANSFORMATION PROCESS, ESTABLISHING THE MASS AND ENERGY BALANCES.
B) TO MAKE AN ESTIMATIVE STUDY ON THE TRANSFORMATION COSTS IN AN INDUSTRIAL PLANT IN SPAIN ACCORDING THE RESULTS BEFORE OBTAINED AT BETHENEVILLE AND SPANISH REAL PRIZES AND EXTRAPOLATION ESTIMATIVES.
THE DEFINITIVE EEC CONTRACT OF THE PROJECT HAS NOT BEEN YET CONCLUDED.
PRELIMINARY STUDIES HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED AT A BATCH OPERATED LABORATORY PILOT PLANT (50 L ETHANOL PER DAY) BY THE PROPOSER CIEMAT-IER.
COMPLEMENTARY LABORATORY STUDIES OF ACID HYDROLYSIS AND CONTINUOUS FERMENTATION OF TUBERS ARE IN COURSE AT THE CIEMAT-IER IN ORDER TO DEFINE THE CONDITIONS OF WORK IN THE PILOT PLANT.
