Objective
THE AIM OF ERD IS TO DEVELOP A POLYVALENT PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF FERMENTABLE SUBSTRATES FOR BIOINDUSTRIES. AT PRESENT THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT ROUTES FOR THE PRODUCTION OF FERMENTABLE SUBSTRATES WITH VERY SPECIFIC EQUIPMENTS.
THE BEET BRANCH USES HIGHLY PRODUCTIVE PLANTS BUT DEPENDS ON DIFFUSION EXTRACTION SYSTEM AND IS LIMITED BY A THREE MONTHS CAMPAIGN. THE CEREAL BRANCH IS CONFRONTED WITH OPPOSITE PROBLEMS SINCE STORAGE OF RAW MATERIALS IS POSSIBLE BUT YIELD IS LOWER. MOREOVER, IN THIS CASE, SUGAR EXTRACTION IS BASED ON HYDROLYSIS PROCESS.
IN ORDER TO OPTIMIZE THE TOTAL AGRICULTURAL POTENTIAL AS WELL AS THE INVESTMENT FOR ITS TRANSFORMATION INTO FERMENTABLE SUBSTRATES ERD IS WORKING AT PILOT PLANT LEVEL ON A PROCESS PERMITTING TO EXTRACT SUGARS FROM BEETS AND CEREALS IN THE SAME EQUIPMENT. THIS HAS BEEN POSSIBLE WITH GENERALIZATION OF ENZYMATIC HYDROLYSIS TREATMENT. IN PARTICULAR A SPECIAL EFFORT HAS BEEN MADE ON BEET HYDROLYSIS INVOLVING THE NOVO A/S COMPANY.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
