Objective
THE PROJECT CONSISTS OF A TECHNICO-ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY STUDY ON THE CONVERSION OF POOR BIOMASS (COPPICES AND AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION WASTE) INTO PAPER PULP.
THE PROCESS IN QUESTION HAS ALREADY BEEN DEFINED BY THE ORDINARIAT FUER HOLZTECHNOLOGIE OF HAMBURG UNIVERSITY.
THE RESEARCH WILL COMPRISE THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS:
- VERIFICATION IN THE LABORATORY OF HAMBURG UNIVERSITY'S ORDINARIAT FUER HOLZTECNOLOGIE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF PRODUCING PAPER PULP FROM POOR BIOMASS (COPPICE WOOD, BROOM, BAGASSE OR SORGHUM BICOLOR, ETC...). A PHYSICO-CHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF THE PULP WILL ALSO BE CARRIED OUT TO DETERMINE ITS QUALITY AND ASSESS ITS UTILIZATION IN THE SUCCESSIVE STAGES OF PAPER PRODUCTION;
- CENSUS OF BIOMASS IN THE ABRUZZI REGION SUITABLE FOR PAPER PULP PRODUCTION;
- INVESTIGATION INTO THE OPTIMUM DIMENSIONS OF THE CONVERSION PLANTS AND THE MINIMUM ECONOMICALLY VIABLE QUANTITY;
- PROVISIONAL DESIGN OF A CONVERSION PLANT IN THE ABRUZZI REGION AND ESTIMATE OF THE EXPENDITURE INVOLVED;
- ECONOMICO-FINANCIAL ANALYSIS OF THIS EXPENDITURE;
- EVALUATION OF THE LIKELY (MACRO AND MICRO) SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF BUILDING THE PLANT;
- EVALUATION OF THE LIKELY IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT;
- INTEGRATION OF THE CONVERSION OF BIOMASS INTO WOOD PULP IN THE REGIONAL AGRO-ENERGY PLANT (LEBEN PROJECT);
- ASSESSMENT OF THE POSSIBILITY OF APPLYING THE RESEARCH FINDINGS IN OTHER SOUTHERN REGIONS OF THE COMMUNITY WHERE POOR BIOMASS OF THE SAME TYPE IS AVAILABLE.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
