RESEARCHES FOR DRASTIC REDUCTION OF EXHAUST EMISSIONS OF I.C. ENGINE DRIVEN HEAT PUMPS (NOX,CO,HC,SOOT).

Objective

OBJECTIVES : COMPLETE CAPABILITY FOR REGENERATION OF THE LAYER, MINIMUM 20000 OPERATION HOURS.
CO AND HC :
FUEL OIL : SOOT LAYER HAS TO OPERATE AS OXIDIZING CATALYST, TOO.
NATURAL GAS : DEVELOPMENT OF AN UNREGULATED OXIDIZING CATALYST WITH MINIMUM 20000 OPERATION HOURS.

OTHERS :
PARALLEL TO RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF ENGINE AND MICROPROCESSOR CONTROL ALSO ADJUSTMENT WORKS REGARDING ALL OTHER PARTS OF THE HEAT PUMPS; SIMULTANEOUSLY DEVELOPMENT AND TESTS OF EMISSION REDUCED KINDS AND SPEEDS OF OPERATION. TEST ON 5 INTERNAL TEST FIELDS; 1986-1987, 8 EMISSION REDUCED HEAT PUMPS (4 NATURAL GAS, $ FUEL OIL) OPERATING IN 8 HOUSES UNDER REAL LIVING CONDITIONS.
8 heat pumps (4 gas heat pumps and 4 fuel oil heat pumps) were built, and have been in use since autumn 1986. The bench results were confirmed, and, by additional experience gathered in the field, various problems could be better located and were mostly solved.
The work done on the diesel engine is focused on the reduction of soot emission. With a soot filter consisting of a ceramic monolith with alternately closed raw and pure gas channels, the defined target value for soot of Bacharach less than 3 is possible, depending on the pore size of the ceramic walls. The most efficient method of reducing the nitrogen emission from the diesel engine is to recirculate the filtered exhaust gases partly to the suction area of the engine.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
