Objective
ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW PRODUCTION CYCLES OF SGI CRANKSHAFTS FOR THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY BY HOT SHAKEOUT IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE:
- INDIRECT ENERGY SAVINGS BY REDUCTION OF ALLOYING ELEMENTS AMOUNTS FROM THE PRESENT PRODUCT,
- DIRECT ENERGY SAVINGS BY THE OBTENTION OF PARTS WITH HIGHER MECHANICAL PROPERTIES IN EITHER " IMPROVED " PEARLITIC OR BAINITIC CAST IRON.
Techniques have been developed for the production of cast brace and bits for the car industry by monitored cooling after shooting at high temperature. The manufacture of moulded pieces is by a continuous thermal process (mastered cooling) after shooting at high temperature. No annealing is required before treatment of the pieces and gains in energy and on quantities of alloys are achieved.

THE PRODUCTION OF SGI CRANKSHAFTS FOR THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY BY CONTROLED COOLING AFTER HOT SHAKEOUT WILL PROGRESS ALONG THREE AXIS OF RESEARCH
1.- PEARLITIC SGI CRANKSHAFTS WITHOUT ALLOYING ELEMENTS BUT WITH THE SAME SERVICE PROPERTIES,
2.- PEARLITIC SGI CRANKSHAFTS WITH HIGHER MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OBTAINED WITH A LOW ALLOY IRON WITHOUT EXTRA ENERGY EXPENSES,
3.- BAINITIC SGI CRANKSHAFTS WITH ENERGY AND ALLOYING ELEMENTS SAVINGS WITH RESPECT TO THE TRADITIONAL BAINITIC TREATMENTS.
THIS PROJECT IS DIVIDED INTO THREE PHASES:
- SETTING UP OF THE EXPERIMENTAL STATION AT CR PAM AND OF DEVICES TO ACHIEVE:
. THE CONTROLLED COOLING OF THE PARTS FOR THE PEARLITIC CRANKSHAFTS,
. THE CONTINUOUS TREATMENT OF THE BAINITIC PARTS.
- OPTIMIZATION OF THE METALLURGY ON FULL SIZE PEARLITIC AND BAINITIC PARTS. OBTENTION OF PROTOTYPE PARTS OF THE THREE FAMILIES OF PRODUCT.
- CHARACTERIZATION OF THE PRODUCTS AND EVALUATION OF THE RESULTS WITH REGARD TO EVERY AND/OR ALLOYING ELEMENTS SAVINGS.
