Objective
TO COMBINE RECENTLY DEVELOPED CYCLONE DUST SEPARATOR TECHNOLOGY WITH A HEAT RECOVERY SYSTEM (SUCH AS THAT USED IN THE OPERATION OF ROTARY CEMENT KILNS) IN ORDER TO PRODUCE A VERY EFFICIENT, COMPACT, EXCHANGER. THIS DIRECT CONTACT COUNTERFLOW SOLID TO GAS HEAT EXCHANGE WOULD ALSO HAVE MANY APPLICATIONS IN OTHER FINE MATERIAL PROCESSING AREAS.
THIS PROJECT AIMS TO COMBINE RECENTLY DEVELOPED CYCLONE DUST SEPARATOR TECHNOLOGY WITH A HEAT RECOVERY SYSTEM (SUCH AS THAT USED IN THE OPERATION OF ROTARY CEMENT KILNS) IN ORDER TO PRODUCE A VERY EFFICIENT COMPACT, HEAT EXCHANGER. CARRYOVER OF FINE PARTICULATE MATTER WITH THE EXHAUST GAS SHOULD BE MINIMISED BY THE USE OF NOVEL, HIGH PERFORMANCE CYCLONE SEPARATOR UNITS. DUST IS REMOVED VIA THE USE OF UP TO THREE VORTEX COLLECTOR POCKETS (HENCEFORTH V.C.P.).THESE ARE CIRCULAR POCKETS WHICH SLIGHTLY OVERLAP THE MAIN CYCLONE CHAMBER. THESE NEW CYCLONE DUST SEPARATORS CAN BE MOUNTED EITHER VERTICALLY OR HORIZONTALLY, HAVE UP TO THREE DUST REMOVAL POINTS AND ARE ABOUT HALF THE LENGTH OF CONVENTIONAL UNITS. THEY OPERATE WITH A VERY STRONG HIGH VELOCITY VORTEX AND SECONDARY FLOW STRUCTURE, THUS GIVING BETTER.
THAT EXCHANGER AS WELL AS RETAINING MORE OF THE FINER MATERIAL. HORIZONTAL UNITS ARE PARTICULARLY ATTRACTIVE AS THEY ALLOW THE CYCLONE HEAT EXCHANGER SYSTEM TO BE LAID OUT AT NEAR GROUND LEVEL, AS OPPOSED TO THE 50 - 70M HIGH STRUCTURES NORMALLY EMPLOYED. AS WELL AS GIVING MAJOR SAVINGS IN CAPITAL COSTS (DUE TO VERY SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCED) CIVIL ENGINEERING COSTS) IT WOULD ALLOW SUCH SYSTEMS TO BE ACTUALLY INSTALLED ON PLANTS CLOSE TO TOWNS/CITIES OR BEATY SPOTS WHERE CONVENTIONAL TALL VERTICAL UNITS ARE NOT PERMITTED THROUGH BUILDING OR ENVIRONMENTAL LEGISLATION. IT IS ENVISAGED THAT RESULTS OBTAINED WOULD BE USEFUL IN A WIDE RANGE OF APPLICATIONS WHERE DIRECT CONTACT GAS TO SOLID HEAT EXCHANGER IS REQUIRED.
