THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SELECTION PROCEDURE FOR INDUSTRIAL HEAT RECOVERY EQUIPMENT BASE ON USING AN "EXPERT SYSTEM"

Objectif

THE WORK IS DIRECTED AT THE DEVELOPMENT OF EXPERT SYSTEMS TO ASSIST USERS TO SELECT AND SPECIFY HEAT RECOVERY EQUIPMENT.
A heat exchanger selection expert system has been developed.

2 prototype expert systems have been developed for the application of heat exchangers and compression cycle heat pumps in energy conservation.
The expert system for heat exchangers is based on a comprehensive selection procedure for the application of heat exchangers in energy systems. In order to select a heat exchanger, the engineer must give typical characteristics such as pressure and temperature levels, flows, capacity, type of fluids and application constraints. This and other information allows the systems to identify the most suitable type of heat exchangers from about 40 different forms of design, for example, plate, shell and tube, etc.
The expert system for compression cycle heat pumps is based on heat demand and energy consumption of buildings and a conceptual design of an energysystem. The fundamental part of the conceptual design process is the selection of subsystems and selection and/or addition of an energy saving system.

THE RESEARCH CONSISTS OF ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH INDUSTRIAL HEAT EXCHANGERS,FOR WHICH IRD WILL BE RESPONSIBLE, AND PUMPS FOR ENERGY CONSERVATION IN BUILDINGS OR INDUSTRY, FOR WHICH COMPRIMO WILL BE PRIME CONTRACTOR.
IT IS INTENDED TO DEVELOP THE EXPERT SYSTEMS SO THAT THE RULE BASES USED INCORPORATE THE BEST PRACTICES CURRENTLY ADOPTED BY CONSULTING ENGINEERS,ENERGY MANAGERS, ETC. IN EQUIPMENT SELECTION AND SPECIFICATION .IN ADDITION, COMPREHENSIVE DATA BASES WILL BE INCORPORATED, INCLUDING EQUIPMENT SUCCESSFULLY DEVELOPED WITHIN THE COMMISSION ENERGY R&D PROGRAMMES.
SEVERAL BENEFITS WILL RESULT FROM THIS WORK. THE USE FOR SYSTEMS WILL OPEN UP TO A WIDE RANGE OF USERS AND SPECIFIERS OF ENERGY CONSERVATION PLANT THE EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE OF SPECIALISTS IN THE HEAT EXCHANGE AND HEAT PUMP FIELDS. IN ADDITION, THE DATA BASES WILL COMPRISE PROBABLY THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE COMMUNITY SOURCE OF HEAT RECOVERY EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE.
CORRECT AND RAPID EQUIPMENT SELECTION SHOULD LEAD TO IMPROVED ENERGY CONSERVATION, AND HENCE FINANCIAL BENEFITS. THE EASE OF ACCESS TO RELIABLE SELECTION PRODUCERS OFFERED BY EXPERT SYSTEMS WILL ALSO WIDEN THE SCOPE FOR THE APPLICATION OF HEAT RECOVERY EQUIPMENT.
