Objetivo
HIGH TEMPERATURE KINETIC DATA IN FLAMES CONTAINING NITROGEN FUELS WILL BE DEDUCED FROM THE ANALYSIS OF THE FLAME STRUCTURE. THROUGHOUT THE FLAME FRONT LOCAL CONCENTRATIONS OF A LARGE NUMBER OF SPECIES (RADICALS, ATOMS AND STABLE MOLECULES) WILL BE MEASURED BY APPLYING MOLECULAR BEAM SAMPLING COUPLED WITH MASS SPECTROMETRY. THE PROJECT WILL CONCENTRATE ON THE INFLUENCE OF TEMPERATURE AS WELL AS RADICAL COMPOSITION ON THE FORMATION AND THE CONSUMPTION OF NITROGEN OXIDES (NOX).
FROM OUR PREVIOUS EXPERIMENTAL EXPERIENCE IN FLAME STUDIES BY MASS SPECTROMETRY IT LOOKS PROMISING TO DEDUCE HIGH TEMPERATURE KINETIC DATA BY EMPLOYING REFERENCE FLAMES SEEDED BY NITROGEN COMPOUNDS SUCH AS NH3, NO, N2, HCN, (CN)2, ETC...THIS TECHNIQUE ALLOWS A FLEXIBILITY TO WORK IN SEVERAL TEMPERATURE RANGE AND IS INDEPENDENT, TO A LARGE EXTENT, OF THE STABILITY OF FLAT FLAMES BURNING AT LOW PRESSURE.
TO IMPROVE THE DETECTION LEVEL OF TRANSIENT SPECIES IN TRACES, A PHASE SENSITIVE DETECTOR HAS TO BE ADDED TO THE MOLECULAR BEAM SAMPLING MASS SPECTROMETER (MBSMS) WHICH IS PRESENTLY IN THE CONSTRUCTION PHASE. PERIPHERAL DEVICES FOR DATA ACQUISITION AND PROCESSING WILL COMPLEMENT THE ALREADY AVAILABLE EQUIPMENT. MOREOVER, PROVISION HAVE BEEN MADE FOR COUPLING THE MBSMS TO ABSORPTION SPECTROSCOPY (AS) IN ORDER TO COMPARE SPECTROSCOPIC MEASUREMENTS FOR NO CONCENTRATION TO THE MASS SPECTROMETRY DATA.
