LARGE SCALE FLUIDIZATION STUDIES.

Objectif

THIS WORK WILL PROVIDE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE MECHANISMS OF WEAR IN LARGE AREA FLUIDISED BEDS, AND DATA TO ENABLE BOILER MAKERS TO IDENTIFY ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS. THIS WILL MINIMISE THE PROBLEMS OF SCALE UP FROM RESEARCH TO COMMERCIAL UNITS AND ENSURE THE CONTINUED RAPID DEVELOPMENT OF A WIDE RANGE OF RELIABLE COAL BURNING FBC EQUIPMENT.
THIS EQUIPMENT AVAILABILITY WILL MAXIMIZE UTILIZATION OF INDIGENOUS EUROPEAN COAL RESOURCES.

THE PROJECT WILL ADDRESS THE METAL WASTAGE PROBLEMS OBSERVED IN SOME FLUIDIZED BED BOILERS BY INVESTIGATING GAS AND SOLIDS FLOW PATTERNS IN LARGE AREA FLUIDIZED BEDS.

THIS BROAD OBJECTIVE WILL BE ACHIEVED BY :

A) CONSTRUCTION OF A LARGE COLD MODEL FLUIDIZED BED FACILITY;
B) MEASUREMENT, IN THE ABOVE FACILITY, OF SURFACE WASTAGE FOR A RANGE OF GEOMETRIES AND OPERATING CONDITIONS;
C) MEASUREMENT OF GAS AND SOLIDS FLOWS, PARTICULARLY IN REGIONS NEAR WALLS AND TUBES;
D) IDENTIFICATION OF SURFACE WASTAGE MECHANISMS, BY RELATING WEAR DATA TO GAS ANS SOLIDS FLOW PATTERNS;
E) PROVIDING INFORMATION TO AID MANUFACTURERS IN THE DESIGN OF EQUIPMENT IN WHICH THE PROBLEM OF EROSION HAS BEEN ELIMINATED.
