FLUIDIZED BED COMBUSTION OF PROBLEM FUELS IN A NOVEL CIRCOFLUID PLANT.

Objective

THE CIRCOFLUID FIRING SYSTEM IS A NOVEL TECHNOLOGY WHICH HAS NOT YET BEEN PROVEN TO FULL EXTENT. THE TECHNICAL AVAILABILITY AND THE TYPICAL FEATURE OF FLUIDIZED BED COMBUSTION, NAMELY THE USE OF A BROAD FUEL RANGE, ARE TO BE DEMONSTRATED BY SEVERAL FUELS WHICH ARE REPRESENTATIVE FOR FUTURE APPLICATION AND WHICH INCLUDE PROBLEMATIC FUELS SUCH AS LIGNITE, ANTHRACITE, AND FLOTATION TAILINGS, PAYING DUE REGARD TO MINIMUM EMISSIONS, MAXIMUM BURNOUT AND HIGH EFFICIENCY.

DEUTSCHE BABCOCK WERKE AG THINK THAT THE FLUIDIZED BED COMBUSTION WILL YIELD NOTABLE ADVANTAGES FOR THE COMBUSTION OF SOLID FUELS IN SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZE UTILITY AND INDUSTRIAL BOILERS. FOR THAT PURPOSE THEY DEVELOPED THE CIRCOFLUID SYSTEM WHICH COMBINES THE BENEFITS OF KNOWN CIRCULATING FLUIDIZED BED COMBUSTORS (HIGH BURNOUT, LOW NOX, FORMATION, HIGH SO2 RETENTION, BROAD FUEL RANGE) WITH THE ADVANTAGES OF EQUALLY KNOW BUBBLING FLUIDIZED BED COMBUSTORS (HIGH RATES OF LOAD CHANGE, QUICK STARTS AND SHUDOWNS, INEXPENSIVE AND COMPACT DESIGN). THE ABOVE PROCESS IS INTENTED TO ESTABLISH THE ESSENTIAL BASIS FOR THE FINAL DESIGN OF THIS EQUIPMENT FOR LARGE-SCALE APPLICATIONS SO THAT APPROPRIATE GUARANTEES CAN BE OFFERED TO POTENTIAL USERS.

THE EFFICIENT UTILIZATION OF PROBLEMATIC FUELS, WHICH CANNOT BE USED OR CAN ONLY BE USED TO A LIMITED EXTENT IN CONVENTIONAL FIRING SYSTEMS, IS TO BE DEMONSTRATED IN THE CIRCOFLUID SYSTEM. PROBLEMATIC FUELS WHICH EXCEL BY
- A HIGH ASH CONTENT (FLOTATION TAILINGS);
- A LOW CONTENT OF VOLATILE MATTER (ANTHRACITE);
- A HIGH MOISTURE AND SALT CONTENT, A STRONG CAKING AND SINTERING TENDENCY (LIGNITE),
ARE TO BE INVESTIGATED UNDER THE PLANNED RESEARCH PROJECT.
WITH THE USE OF SUCH FUELS, SAFE AND CONTINUOUS OPERATION IS TO BE ACHIEVED AT SEVERAL LOAD POINTS AND, IN ADDITION, THE FOLLOWING BOUNDARY CONDITIONS ARE AIMED AT BY AN APPROPRIATE OPERATING MODE FOR THE FUEL IN QUESTION :
- BURNOUT AT LEAST 99%;
- EMISSION OF POLLUANTS (NOX,SOX,CO) UNDER 200MG/NM TO THE POWER OF 3 WITHOUT ADDITIONAL FLUE GAS CLEANING.
IN THESE OBJECTIVES ARE REACHED BY MEANS OF THE CIRCUFLUID SYSTEM, A BROAD RANGE OF APPLICATIONS WILL OPEN UP FOR THIS METHOD IN INDUSTRY AND IN THE POWER SUPPLY SECTOR.
