DEVELOPMENT OF COAL-WATER MIXTURE FIRING IS SMALL COMMERCIAL BOILER APPLICATIONS

Objective

THE STUDY WILL ESTABLISH THE LIKELY LEVELS OF MARKET PENETRATION OF CWM FOR GIVEN FUEL PRICE DIFFERENTIALS AND PLANT CONVERSION COSTS. COMBUSTION TEST DATA WILL DEFINE THE NECESSARY CWM QUALITY PARAMETERS, BURNER DESIGN, BOILER OPERATING CONDITIONS AND ANCILLARY EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR A COMBUSTION SYSTEM WITH AN AMENITY VALUE (IN TERMS OF HANDLING AND AUTOMATIC CONTROL) APPROACHING THAT OF OIL-FIRED PLANT. SUCH DATA WILL PROVIDE A MEANS OF SPECIFYING THE DESIGN FEATURES OF BOTH RETROFIT AND PURPOSE-BUILT CWM COMBUSTORS FOR THE COMMERCIAL MARKET.

THE PROJECT HAS AS OBJECTIVES :

1. TO ASSESS THE POTENTIAL MARKET FOR COAL-WATER MIXTURES (CWM) AS A MEANS OF FIRING SMALL COMMERCIAL-SCALE BOILERS, TYPICALLY IN THE 50KW TO 1MW CAPACITY RANGE;

2. TO DEMONSTRATE THE TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY OF CWM FIRING IN SUCH APPLIANCES;

3. TO GENERATE DESIGN DATE FOR RETROFIT AND PURPOSE-MADE CWM-FIRED COMMERCIAL COMBUSTION SYSTEMS.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
